Here’s what we’re reading 📚 this week:
⚖️ The US District Court rules AI art cannot be copyrighted
Hot take: This fight is far from over. This may be a win for AI artists that create art, photography, music and other creative works. However, the big battle coming will be with music and movies, where musicians and actors lobby for new laws that protect their work from generative AI copies and infringement on their IP.
📱Snap is launching a new generative AI feature, Dreams
Hot take: Snap is innovating fast and has a strong and loyal user base. If Snap plays its cards right it could parlay its user base to rival OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta and other juggernauts. Time will tell how this plays out, but for now they continue to innovate at a rapid pace.
🤖 Perplexity.AI gains traffic while ChatGPT search interest dipped in June and July
Hot take: Perplexity.AI is based on the Open AI (ChatGPT) model so it’s interesting they gained a few points of market share, however I doubt they pose a threat to the 👑 of AI. There are multiple theories to why ChatGPT traffic has dropped ranging from school being out (kids aren’t cheating on their homework) to the AI bubble bursting. Our take is that we’re still in the early stages of adoption and we will see continue to see fluctuations up and down as AI finds its place in the tech sector. For fans of Geoffrey Moore’s classic Crossing the Chasm, we’re currently in the tech enthusiasts / Innovators section of the curve. We’re early in the game so we’ve got some time before we reach the chasm.

It’s fascinating to see the growing role of AI in shaping both legal landscapes and technology. The US District Court ruling in favor of AI is a crucial milestone, as it sets the stage for more widespread acceptance and integration of AI in various sectors. From a practical perspective, we’ve already seen how AI improves efficiency in industries like tech, marketing, and customer service, and it’s exciting to think about what’s next.
Personally, at https://kristieai.com/custom-ai-solution-for-machine-learning/, we’ve seen firsthand how AI solutions can drastically enhance personalization and streamline processes, enabling businesses to scale quickly while maintaining a high level of precision. The evolving legal framework around AI will likely further empower companies to innovate without as much concern over regulatory barriers.
Regarding the dip in ChatGPT traffic, it’ll be interesting to see how this shift plays out in the long term. As AI technology continues to evolve, I wonder if platforms like Snap, which are integrating more AI features, will be able to bridge the gap and offer new ways for businesses and users to engage more effectively. What do you think – will new AI features lead to increased engagement, or will challenges in the industry hinder further growth?
